In her dissertation project she is exploring the history of knowledge and media history of animal behavioral studies.<\/p>\n<p>Gr\u00e4fe currently works at the Cluster of Excellence \u00bb<a href=\"https:\/\/www.matters-of-activity.de\/en\/members\/10532\/sophia-grafe\">Matters of Activity<\/a>\u00ab, Humboldt-Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin. She has been a visiting scholar at the Museum f\u00fcr Naturkunde Berlin since March 2018, where she helped establish the online text series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumfuernaturkunde.berlin\/en\/research\/images-nature\">Images of Nature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gr\u00e4fe earned her MA in Cultural History and Theory from Humboldt-University Berlin and her BA in Media Culture from Bauhaus-University Weimar. During her time in Weimar she was a student assistant at the chair of Media History of the Sciences (M. Krajewski) and at the chair of History and Theory of Cultural Techniques (C. Vismann), among others.<\/p>\n<p>From 2015 to 2018, Gr\u00e4fe has held research positions at the Department of Cultural History and Theory of the Humboldt-Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin and in the research area \u00bb<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zfl-berlin.org\/project\/behavioral-knowledge.html\">Knowledge of Life<\/a>\u00ab at the Leibniz-Zentrum f\u00fcr Literatur- und Kulturforschung (ZfL) in Berlin (2018\u20132019). Subsequently, she was a Research Associate in the DFG-Heisenberg Project \u00bb<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-marburg.de\/en\/fb09\/institutes\/media-studies\/research\/research-projects\/transdisciplinary-networks-of-media-knowledge\">Transdisciplinary Networks of Media Knowledge<\/a>\u00ab at the Philipps-University of Marburg (2018-2023) and\u00a0an Associate Member of the Kolleg\u00a0\u00bb<a href=\"https:\/\/konfigurationen-des-films.de\/en\/\">Configurations of Film<\/a>\u00ab at Goethe University, Frankfurt, in 2019. In spring 2021, she did a remote-semester as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator at the History of Science Department of Princeton University (USA).<\/p>\n<p>She is the co-spokesperson of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gfmedienwissenschaft.de\/gesellschaft\/ags\/medienwissenschaft-und-wissenschaftsforschung\">AG Medienwissenschaft und Wissenschaftsforschung<\/a> (working group Media Science and Science Studies) at the Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Medienwissenschaft (GfM) and co-chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmstudies.org\/page\/groups_nontheatrical\">Nontheatrical Film and Media SIG<\/a> of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS).<\/p>\n<p>Her research interests include Media History and History of Science, Useful Film, Surveillance Film, Natural History Image Archives, and Film &amp; Animal Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Her research was portrayed for the documentary film <a class=\"link__extern\" href=\"https:\/\/mubi.com\/de\/de\/films\/bestiari-erbari-lapidari\">BESTIARI, ERBARI, LAPIDARI<\/a> (directed by Massimo D&#8217;Anolfi, Martina Parenti, IT\/CH, 2024).
